Research Area: My doctoral research is on trust erosion and its potential recovery in contexts of tragedy. I intend to explore how trust may be intertwined in a nuanced relational web of intentionality and commitment to the Other, and how its absence can have an impact on every aspect of a society. I will explore the idea that without trust we are running from our freedom at the expense both of our authentic self and of the Other, and are compromising our society, security, and stability as a result. Some of the questions I will explore are: Is trust necessary for a richer understanding of others? Is it even possible to trust in situations where atrocities have been committed and continue to be? For example, can one access, validate, and affirm the Other(s) in post-Killing-Field Cambodia or in Canadian First Nation communities where the scars of history remain?
