Degree Title:
Master of Engineering with International Development Studies

I am a master’s student in the School of Engineering, studying Environmental Engineering and International Development. My academic interests include social justice issues, integrated water management, renewable energy, and indigenous engineering praxis. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy participating in communities like Engineers Without Borders, Ecumenical Campus Ministry, and OPIRG. I’ve found the interdisciplinary nature of the IDS graduate program to be a really unique and satisfying opportunity to explore a surprising breadth of perspectives shared by graduate students from a wide variety of home disciplines. The pressing issues discussed in IDS classes are astonishingly pertinent to environmental engineering problems, yet remain a dimension of engineering discourse uncommonly addressed in adequate depth. The conjoint IDS program has offered a rewarding way to address the constraints of engineering courses by providing opportunities to explore wider contexts and implications the engineering discipline has historically failed to consider on its own.
